Well, so far I have come up with nothing but a headache. Not only am I bad at this blog style type of writing, but the "creative writing process" as well. I have been working 16/18 hour shifts almost everyday so if I am not there, I am sleeping, or dealing with my new 8 week old puppy. The nursing home has been the only thing on my mind really. I have been racking my brain trying to come up with a topic for this paper. That is one of my biggest weaknesses as a developing writer. If the teacher gives me a topic, I am good to go! Coming up with one on my own, now that is a different story.
However, I am thinking about doing my topic on something that deals with working in a nursing home. Now this topic could be tricky due to the fact that I cannot break HIPPA laws. I am thinking I will make my proposal on what I think should be done to people who commit "elder abuse" or rather just on the ignorant people I work with. I have yet to decide, I am still in the process of figuring it out.
Emily, your title is cracking me up. I think you sound like you are onto something very interesting. You have NOT told us your work's formal business name. You can get creative...share stories, include names (change them to be politically correct if you are worried). No one knows where you work though so you would be breaking no laws. My dad was a therapist. He had a patient tell him he dug up bodies in graveyards and did "things" to them. I honestly don't even know which practice this patient told him that at...You do not know where my dad works and no one he ever told that story did either. No HIPPA laws broken! ;)
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note...your topic hits right at home with me. My great aunt passed away while living in a nursing home. She was not being watched properly. She had Alzheimer's. She snuck out of her window constantly. She went missing one winter and was gone for months. Her nurse claimed she could not find her and had searched everywhere. Her body was found feet from the property. :/ The windows and doors were not fastened properly. I cannot attest to abuse but neglect definitely. So sad :/ Her family of course sued...You don't know where that occurred either. No HIPPA laws broken again :)
